Lightened-Up Thanksgiving

Before I came up with  “A Better You” 30 Days Challenge—I couldn’t help but realized that Thanksgiving is literally around the corner. It can be really hard to give up mama’s soul food cooking and grandma’s sweet potato pie. I know some of you may wonder with much concerns stating, “There is no way on earth I would be eating healthy and drink only water on Turkey Day. It will be snowing in Florida if you ever catch me working-out during Turkey Day!” There was a slight doubt and my evil conscious was telling me, “Dhane, you must of have lost your mind doing this challenge around this time of year—bad timing!”  Trust me, it’s tough for me too, Lord knows how much I love my fried turkey and sweet buttermilk cornbread! But relax, don’t panic—I have already prepared a healthy meal plan for those who are still up for the challenge!

It’s actually perfect timing for me to do this challenge, because that’s when the extra pounds sneak up. We all have that feeling after Turkey Day, when you just feel like you’ve been defeated—everything you ever worked for (Beyoncé’s abs, Serena William’s apple bottoms and Michelle Obama’s toned arms) all went down the drain in just one day. We don’t need that kind of depressed feeling around us. Don’t worry, we’re not going to ruin our dream body goals and our end of the year BANG— I have it all under control to keep this challenge enjoyable and beneficial!

Ok, so I was able to research some ideas of creating a healthy meal for Turkey Day. If you’re a chef and love cooking in your household–the following links below will direct you to the recipes for each dish. There are other options you can choose from, but this was just a few examples randomly selected by me.

Thanksgiving Menu:

1.) Herb-Rubbed Turkey with Roasted-Garlic Gravy

2.) Belgian Endive and Apple Salad with Cranberry Vinaigrette

3.) Wild and Brown Rice Pilaf with Butternut Squash and Dried Cranberries

4.) Roasted Sweet Potatoes with Mushrooms and Shallots

5.) Sauteed Kale (double to serve 6)

6.) Cranberry-Apple Crisp with Oatmeal Streusel Topping

Here’s the fun part about this challenge: I want you all to post and share your healthy version of Turkey Day dish! I will be posting my pictures up on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. Follow me and I will keep you updated!
