Revealing Garments: A Stop to an End or a Continuous Fashion Trend?

The fashion world of today is unpredictable. You never know what to expect when it comes to a trending style. Especially for celebrities known to idolize many eyes of inspirations to normal people like us. What we see on T.V is what we imitate in reality. It’s common to see celebrities such as Beyoncé, the Kardashian sisters (except for Kourtney), Lady Gaga,  J. Lo, Rihanna and Ciara wearing dresses that reveals a bit too much of their feminine figure. Take it from Rihianna who is famously known for her unapologetic attitude and appear to be an threateningly hot sex appeal in the music industry.

The 26 year-old singer attended the CFDA Awards back in

June, wearing a sheer dress, covered in 216,000 swaroyski crystals, designed by Adam Selman. The nearly nude dress appeared to leave little to no imagination left, exposing her bare nipples and private parts. Most people considered her appearance to be offensive and utterly disrespectful to society. According to Advertising Standards Associations; they deemed it too “sexually suggestive”. However, others approached the singer’s look to be quite appealing, showing a new comfort yet  bold and confident display of a woman’s sexuality. It’s perfectly fine to show some skin, but how much is too much? Would you consider a backless dress to be too revealing? How about dresses or tops design to show off side boobs, it that too much and inappropriate for women to wear? We can’t forget about the slit skirts and dresses that are cut way up to our pelvic , (have you seen Kendall Jenner dress on the red carpet at the MuchMusic Video Award show?), do you think that’s a bit too much for T.V and in public?

What messages are we sending, if we portray ourselves as Queens but wear practically naked

garments that identify us as sex symbols? We as women enjoy the satisfaction of feeling sexy for ourselves, our man (if you gotta man or trying to get a man), or just because in general. But to feel sexy by revealing some, if not all of our skin is a big red flag. It shows no type of class and a lack of respect for yourself, to go out in public covered in only sheer or exposing inappropriate area of your body parts.

Every woman should understand that being sexy doesn’t mean you have to show some skin. You could be covered from head to toe and still look sexy; it all comes down to how you carry yourself. Keeping up with the world fashion trend is not always popular to reflect. The form of originality has never went out of style and it’s unfortunate of how many people have lost that ability to be…original. Prom night outfits back then in high school was nothing compared to the prom night outfits of today’s young teen girls. Young women back then was all about matching their favorite Disney character like Cinderella, Belle, Snow White, and even had a little imaginations to be dressed as a pretty ballerina with a too-too dress on. (Those were the days).

But as for today’s prom dresses, you would think that the young women were attending a college

homecoming ball or hitting the red carpet at the Grammy’s/Oscar’s Award shows. Their dresses were mind-blowing and I couldn’t help but noticed the types of dresses some were wearing-ranging from see-through gowns to revealing cleavages and stomach. We’re talking about 17 and 18-year-old young ladies, dressing nearly naked garments in high school; which in my opinion, is very unacceptable.

There needs to be a stop to an end of revealing garments for not just young women but for every women in all ages. We need to set an example for our younger generations by setting our standards higher than what we see trending in Hollywood. Celebrities can flaunt anything they wear because it’s their job as an entertainer to entertain us. By entertaining us, they play the role to match their looks as actresses and singers. But what excuses do we have when we’re wearing revealing garments in public? When has it ever been popular to show off our “goodies”?

Lets look at one of the hottest celebrities of today, rocking garments that are non-revealing: Michelle Obama, Nicole Kidman, Olivia Pope (I am a Gladiator fan!), Kylie Minogue, Kate Moss, Clemence Poesy, Diane Kruger, Grabielle Union, Zoe Saldana, and many more. These women have shown class after class and it didn’t take much skin to show just how sexy they can be. It’s mainly about confidence and having a high self-esteem. Carry yourself as the Queen you are and show less skin. Too much skin shown is not a good look and it shouldn’t be the fashion trends for women today. Wearing a sheer-all-over dress is too much and it becomes tacky. If you’re into see-through materials, try a half sheer; be sure the sheer part is on one side or bottom of the leg and not your front or your rear, that takes the sheer trend too far. If you feel comfortable showing skin, then wear a nude cami tank top underneath your sheer shirt or a cami in the color matching your top. You can wear dresses that will insinuate your body and show just enough cleavage to be sexy and yet classy. What are your opinions? Do you think revealing garments should be a continuing fashion trend or should it be a stop to an end?

Below are the following appropriate garments you can wear, revealing not too much but just enough to still look sexy:
